Why I just get in the frame anyway
And why you should get in the Frame
Do you think your kids will look back at the photos you have and say 'look how happy and young we were back then' or 'where were you mum?'
Believe me, your kids don't care if you're carrying extra weight right now, or if you haven't had the chance to colour your hair, if you don't like the way your body looks, if you don't like your skin, your hair cut, have nothing to wear or whatever other excuse you have to hide from the lens. The only thing your kids care about is having the pictures to look back on and having you in them too. To see things that are foggy in their memories. To remember the old days. What their mum and dad looked like and how they looked when they were 1, 3, 7, 13.... 20 or whatever age they're looking back to.
As a mum myself, and one who hasn't been able to get anywhere near to what I looked like before kids, it is hard to accept my body has changed. I stopped colouring my hair and now I have more grey hairs than anyone should have at 36! I've piled on the kilos with each baby and I've struggled to lose them again. I look nothing like I used to before kids, but that's not what really matters. Love, connection and memories matter more. It's important to still be in those pictures with my family and not just always the one behind the camera. We are the ones who are always there as mums. We are there to feed them during the night, to nurse them when they're sick, to take them to school and to pick them up again, we help them with their homework.... we do all of that. So, why aren't we in the photos with them?
We owe it to our kids to put our hang ups aside and get into the frame with them. Trust me, you are beautiful just as you are today! And on top of all that, speak to your photographer about your insecurities. We have the experience and the skills to help you from styling to feel comfortable in your own skin at your shoot. We can help to get your best angles so you love your pictures.
I'll put this challenge to you: Pass the phone to your partner and get into some of those shots with your babies. If you have a camera, why not do what I did and set it up on a tripod and take some photos of your family with you in it. Or even better, contact me to book your family session today!
Mammas, you all look absolutely gorgeous!!
