Mamma, get in the frame
This is me: getting in front of the camera for once
I'm the first one to admit that I hate being in front of the camera. I feel entirely self conscious and I don't feel photogenic at all. However, after recently having my baby girl, I really wanted to have some photos with her. I was never really in the photos with my sons when they were little... unless of course they were super bad ones from unflattering angles... you know how it is! My husband has ALL the photos!!! Us mums are great at picking up our phones and snapping photos of our kids with others... but no one does the same for us.
I really wanted something like that for myself. So, I roped my husband into taking my photos and I made it happen!
For once, I pushed all my hang ups to the side. I brushed my hair (when you're in the thick of it with a newborn - am I still allowed to call her that at 11 weeks old?... self care is at the bottom of the list), put on a dress and did a quick 5 minute make up application, laid out outfits for my boys to change into and got my baby girl ready. All hubby had to do was come along and take our photos!
Once we arrived at my favourite spot - the one I love taking my families to for their photography sessions, I got all the settings right for him and after a quick crash course in the super basics of what to do to take the pictures and get the focus right we got started. I told him where to stand, whether to have the camera in portrait or landscape, I gave my kids prompts from where we sat and he went nuts taking all the photos. He was an excellent apprentice!
After sifting through the photos, I found so many that I am so in love with. I edited them up - all dark and moody with some gorgeous grain which I am LOVING adding to my edits at the moment for that timeless feel. I am so happy with the pictures and I now have some photos with my 4 babies that I can't stop looking at and will honestly cherish forever.
This is your reminder to do the same. Motherhood photography is something I am really passionate about: I really want this for you. You will never regret being in the photos. You will never regret having the photos. You can only regret not getting the photos and even worse, not getting in the frame with your babies. Just get into the photos - you owe it to yourself. Awkward or not, they're important memories to have. If not for you, then for your children.
Plus, I promise that you will *not* look awkward if I'm the one taking your photos. My main goal is always to get you comfortable and having fun with your family and that really reflects in my images.
