Curating your Memories into just a few Nostalgic Photographs

nostalgia

Remember, back in the day, when you were young and you were going on school camp?

If you grew up anything like me, you were given a disposable camera. 24 precious clicks to capture the essence of your few days away from home. Of course, being young and having zero idea how to take a good photo with a disposable camera, most of the shots came back where you could only just make out what was going on... barely. But, even now, almost a quarter of a century later, looking at those grainy, barely-visible photos... I am still transported back to those moments. With those 24 clicks, you'd wait for something you didn't want to forget.

As I got into my senior years, digital cameras became more of a thing and it was easier to take photos and know you were going to end up with something half decent because you could see it on the screen. Plus, you had a lot more leeway in how many photos you can take and you could even delete the rubbish ones to clear some space if you were desperate and found another moment you wanted to remember. Afterwards, you'd upload them to your computer, put them on a thumb drive and take them to Kmart to get them printed out and you placed them gently into a photo album to enjoy for years to come.

I was horse-obsessed while I was in school and I sure as heck passed my camera to my friend to grab that shot on camp.

And, of course, I got photos with my childhood bestie along the way (cameras were always in our bags for all occasions). We even printed and shared them around. One of my most cherished photos is a barely-visible photo of her while we were on year 7 camp. You have to squint to see she's standing on a rope swing (because... you know.. disposable camera quality when you don't know how to take photos as a 12-13 year old)... but, even so, it still transports me right back to that moment. She was so brave and confident and that moment was no different... She was always so much braver than me. She actually had so much fun in that moment and in her life... while I was such a chicken and clinging on for dear life! All those memories flooded back to me seeing that picture. Those photos are more precious than ever now that she's no longer with us.

Our time growing up before mobile phones, it wasn't like the world today. A camera in your hand 24/7 to snap 100 photos before you'd even gotten dressed for the day.

Gone are the days of those 24 precious clicks.

But that's just the problem, you see? There's something missing from all those selfies and happy snaps we take on our phone on a daily basis.

Those photos that live on your phone... and maybe on the cloud. Photos that are uploaded and, subsequently, forgotten.

What's missing is that feeling you get when you hold that priceless, single, printed and curated memory from a period of time in your life.

The waiting, while the photos get developed, to finally see what images you will have to hold on to and remember those few short days of camp.

And, ultimately, the feel of that print in your hands.

That's where I can step in. Let me be the curator of your memories; picking the best moments from a small part of your fleeting history, which through your Gallery, will bring you right back to this moment it in years to come. Let me, through my signature style, give your photographs that cinematic feel through movement. Allow me to give your photographs a filmic vibe through my unique colour edit and the grainy noise that layers over your photo. Memories that evoke strong feelings of nostalgia and a yearning for time to take you back to that moment with your loved ones. And finally, don't leave those images sitting in the digital world. Take advantage of the Store linked to your Gallery and make some beautiful prints to hold and enjoy.

Without the photographs... time keeps passing by with you none-the-wiser until you scroll back a bit in your phone and reality hits. It's gone by faster than you wanted it to. Look how much they've grown. If only time could just stand still... and, the most dreadful thought... Where am I in all of these photos?

Invest in yourself and your core memories and bring back that feeling of beautiful nostalgia in years to come.
